Synopsis

"Crowned" reimagines the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn through a modern, hip-hop–infused lens. In the ruthless world of Henry VIII’s court, Anne refuses to be a mistress and demands a crown, igniting England’s break with Rome and the birth of the Church of England. As power shifts, rumors become weapons and love becomes law, Anne is destroyed by charges of adultery, incest, and treason—fabricated to clear the way for Henry’s next marriage and a hoped-for male heir. Yet her legacy outlives her execution: her daughter Elizabeth I rises from disgrace to rule for over forty years, defeating the Spanish Armada and ushering in England’s Golden Age. The musical asks who controls history—and what happens when a woman refuses to bow.
